How Your Denture Is Made
Consultation
We examine your mouth and any existing denture, discuss whether implants are an option, and agree a plan and a price.
Impressions
Accurate moulds of the gums, and where relevant the remaining teeth, are taken so the base fits closely.
Try-In
A wax version is tried in so you can see the tooth shape, shade and position, and we can check your bite, before anything is finalised.
Fit & Adjust
The finished denture is fitted. A follow-up visit to ease any sore spots is completely normal, so please come back rather than suffering in silence.
Living With Dentures
New dentures feel bulky for the first couple of weeks. That is the tongue and cheeks adapting, and it passes. Eating soft food cut into small pieces for the first few days, and chewing on both sides at once, makes the adjustment much faster.
Jawbone slowly changes shape after teeth are lost, so a denture that fitted perfectly five years ago may need relining. Do not rely on adhesive to hide a poor fit, because a loose denture rubs and can damage the gum underneath.
- Take them out at night unless told otherwise
- Clean daily with a denture brush, not toothpaste
- Soak as directed to keep the material from drying out
- Rinse after meals to prevent soreness
- Come back for a reline when the fit loosens
- Keep check-ups even with no natural teeth left
