Kids Dentist in Oakland, CA
Children who enjoy the dentist grow into adults who keep their teeth. Our team takes the time to let your child look at the mirror, count their teeth and ask questions before anything else happens, so a check-up feels friendly rather than frightening.

Dental Care Built Around Small Patients
Baby teeth matter. They guide the adult teeth into position, they shape speech, and an infected baby tooth can be just as painful as an adult one. That is why we recommend a first visit by your child’s first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth coming through.
Early appointments are short and mostly about getting comfortable. As your child grows we add cleanings, fluoride, sealants and simple fillings when needed, always explaining what we are doing in words a child can follow.
- Check-ups, cleanings and fluoride treatments
- Dental sealants to protect new back teeth
- Tooth-coloured fillings, never silver on front teeth
- Habit advice for thumb-sucking and pacifier use
- Space maintainers when a baby tooth is lost early
- Early orthodontic assessment from around age seven

What Makes a Visit Easier for Your Child
We Move at Their Pace
Nothing happens until your child is ready. Tell-show-do means we explain the instrument, show it working on a finger, and only then use it in the mouth.
Parents Stay in the Room
You are welcome to sit beside your child throughout. Many children relax far faster when a parent is holding their hand.
Appointments That Fit School
With evening and weekend hours you rarely need to take your child out of class for a routine visit.
What Happens at a Children’s Check-Up
Meet and Settle In
We say hello, show your child the chair and the mirror, and let them get used to the room without any pressure.
Gentle Examination
We count the teeth, check the bite and look for early signs of decay. X-rays are only taken when there is a clear reason.
Clean and Protect
A polish removes plaque, and a fluoride varnish strengthens the enamel. Sealants can be painted onto the grooves of new molars.
Talk It Through
We show you and your child how to brush the spots being missed, and give straightforward advice on snacks and drinks.
Helping Your Child Avoid Cavities
Most childhood decay is preventable. The two things that make the biggest difference are how often sugar is in the mouth, not just how much, and whether an adult supervises brushing until around age eight.
If your child already has cavities, please do not feel judged. It is extremely common, and the important thing now is to treat it early while the fillings can still be small and simple.
- Brush twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste
- Supervise brushing until roughly age eight
- Keep juice and sweet drinks to mealtimes only
- Water between meals rather than sipping juice
- Check-ups every six months, or as we advise
- Never put a baby to bed with a bottle of milk or juice
